National School Project

The initiative “Kids Run for Kids“ was founded  in 2003. The idea is that children (aged 6 to 14) participate in sponsored runs held all over Germany. For every kilometre the child runs, the sponsors donate a sum of money to the charity SOS Children’s Villages.
Since the initiative was founded in 2003, 600,000 pupils have generated 5.4 million Euros for charity.
However, the project is not only about charity. It is about using charity as the motivator to improve children’s and teenagers’ motivation to develop healthy lifestyles and keep fit.
“Kids Run for Kids” works with Professor Dr. Klaus Bös from the Research Centre for Sport at School, Children and Teenagers of the University of Karlsruhe as well as Professor Dr. Günter Eissing from the Department of Health Promotion and Consumer Education of the University of Dortmund to develop ways to keep schools active and teach them about nutrition.
